The reason why we look like our parents is because of genes! Yes, genes. Genes are made up of cells that our human bodies have. In science, cells are commonly building blocks of all living things. We have so many cells in our human body that nobody, I MEAN NOBODY is able to count trillions and trillions of tiny, bitsy cells!!! Body structure from the cells provide us the nutrients from the food we eat, then convert the food into energy, and perform particular functions. Cells can make copies of one another and cover the body’s genetic material. Overall, cells help determine our genes. Physical features are also known as "phenotype" which help out scientist a lot when determining to find someone who looks alike. This topic can relate to Physical Anthropology because of how we can see similar traits when standing next to our parents. Fun example: skin cells and DNA test are able to define which family someone is originally originated from or can help scientist determine who the real murderer is.

what we know as the physical and functional component of heredity. Genes are made up of DNA. These DNA structures make up molecules that are called proteins. Everyone in the world has one copy from each of their parent’s genes which make up two copies of each gene. There is a dominant gene (trait that is always present) and recessive gene (trait only expressed if there are two copies). An allele is a form of the same gene with minor alterations in their arrangement of DNA bases. This is why genes are important to us when we discover the similarities that we have with our parents and where we get them from.

observable traits. Physical features are . . . how someone or how something looks with using our own two eyes. Physical features for example are our eyes, nose, lips, mouth, ears, teeth, eyebrows, and many more. These features define how we look!!! For instance, a person’s eye color or shape lets us know what race someone can be. Unique physical features from each person can contribute to small differences that some people do not notice! My physical features between both of my parents show that I get part of each parent’s DNA. As you can see on picture #3 that I have my father’s lips. Picture #3: I have my mother’s face structure, smile, eyes, and nose. My skin color is in between both my parents. My father has a dark skin tone compared to my mother’s. Sometimes, your siblings can have more of one parent’s DNA rather than the other. My sister looks more like my father. At picture #4, my sister’s skin tone matches with his and they have more similarities on their faces than I do! Physical characteristics take huge parts on how we can use it towards Physical Anthropology. So overall, genetics DO show our physical features towards our parents!!! (I know that we also have personality traits, emotional traits, and talents from either our family generations or our environment. I wish I had more to say, BUT I have only 600 words.)

In the end, I enjoyed picking this kind of topic for my blog and Physical Anthropology class. Genetics to physical features are great ways on how to explain why we look like our mom and dad OR even our grandparents. You and I are inherit with one copy of our genes from each of our parents. Phenotype or physical characteristics are the observable traits. Genes are a genetic material that codes someone’s traits. DNA can be found in the nucleus of a cell. Physical Anthropology is important when exploring where we get our DNA from and how it can resemble our traits. Without anthropology, how are we to know about these facts?
